Deputy Consul-General Koji Adachi and colleagues at the Consulate-General of Japan were among the guests of honor who attended a reception to celebrate the kick-off of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics Games at the Tower Club in Fort Lauderdale. Co-hosted by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Sister Cities International, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce, and the International Swimming Hall of Fame, the event was open to the public. Guests enjoyed a taste of Japanese culture, which included sushi and sake tastings, as well as a Taiko Drumming performance by Florida-based group Fushu Daiko. Refugee Paralympic team swimmer Abbas Karimi, who was honored during the event, and Broward County commissioner Dale V.C. Holness, were among the guests of honor. Staff and government officials from the Consulate-General of Japan and members of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Sister Cities International, Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce, and the International Swimming Hall of Fame also attended.
