United Way of Broward County announced that Broward County Public Schools is going to be using the ReadingPals program once again (virtually) to help students improve their reading and to provide mentorship throughout the 2020-2021 school year. The organization is seeking 300 volunteers to make this years’ ReadingPals program a success. ReadingPals connects volunteers with Pre-K through 2nd-grade students to generate a lifetime love of literacy and to improve reading and comprehension skills to ensure children are reading at grade level by the end of 2nd grade. The program requires that volunteers dedicate one hour per week for 25 weeks during the school year to read to an individual student or in a small group. This year, the program will be held 100% virtually. During the past school year, volunteers cumulatively contributed over 6,000 hours to the ReadingPals program and helped 408 students across Broward County.
