I tend to like smaller, trendy boutique hotels, but I recently was asked to visit The Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood, Florida. I have always perceived it to be more of a convention hotel, and it is, but what I didn’t realize is how much this hotel has to offer guests. I am not alone in this discovery because The Diplomat was voted one of the top 10 resorts in Florida by Conde Nast Traveler Choice Awards in 2018.
The 271-room resort includes 133 suites and features spectacular Mediterranean architecture with classic Italian, Moorish, and Spanish influences. One of my favorite features of The Biltmore is the pool area, which has private cabanas and boasts the largest hotel pool on the East Coast of the United States.
The Diplomat Beach Resort is ideally situated between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, along Hollywood’s Gold Coast. Nearby attractions include Downtown Hollywood, Hollywood Beach Boardwalk, Gulfstream Racing and Casino, Seminole Hard Rock Casino, Big Easy Casino, and Aventura Mall.
The resort features an expansive private beach area with lounge chairs and beach service. There are two beachside pools, a Dip & Slide Waterpark, a Kid’s Club, a playground and all types of water sports options, including paddle boarding, kayaking and jet skiing.
For South Florida boaters wanting to experience dining at one of the Diplomat’s many restaurants, complimentary marina dockage is available. Speaking of dining, the resort offers eight different restaurant venues from casual dining to fine dining, including Monkitail by famed Chef Michael Schulson and Point Royal by Celebrity Chef Geoffrey Zakarian. Other choices include Japanese-inspired food, a steakhouse, a Latin restaurant, an Italian restaurant and a burger place. The Diplomat’s Hotel Bar features drink specials from famous hotels around the world.
If you are a spa person, the resort offers ocean-inspired soothing treatments and healing therapies. The spa is 14,000 square feet with all types of treatments, halotherapy salt steam rooms, saunas and an ocean view lounge. Adjacent to the Diplomat Spa is a state-of-the-art, two-story fitness center featuring an elevated cardio deck with elliptical, treadmills and stationary bikes, all with integrated docking stations. Private fitness training sessions are available.
The resort provides a variety of spacious rooms and suites with ocean, Intracoastal Waterway and city views. Oceanfront rooms have spacious balconies overlooking the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. In-room amenities include a mini-bar, refrigerator, video games, 24-hour room service and on-demand movies.
