Broward County Commissioner Chip LaMarca announced his candidacy for the Florida House at a gathering at Birch State Park in Fort Lauderdale, officially launching a campaign to represent areas of Deerfield Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Hillsboro Beach, Lauderdale by the Sea, Lighthouse Point, Oakland Park, Pompano Beach, Sea Ranch Lakes and Wilton Manors.

Representative George Maraitis introduced LaMarca’s wife of 22 years, Eileen, and gave his heartfelt endorsement of Commissioner LaMarca to replace him in Tallahassee. Maraitis said that “When Chip is in Tallahassee, it’s like Broward County has another state representative working hard on issues like Port Everglades expansion and beach renourishment.” Chip is a lifelong resident of Broward County who has earned a reputation for being a citizens’ advocate and a respected voice for Broward’s taxpayers, veterans, first responders and pets. In announcing his candidacy, LaMarca said “We are energized to bring our proven record of working together to achieve a positive impact on issues important to every Floridian, such as continuing to grow of our vibrant economy and creating an opportunity for everyone to have a good, high-wage job.”

LaMarca attended Boston University, Florida Atlantic University and Broward College before joining the construction industry just like his late
father. Later, LaMarca started his own construction company specializing in power generation. He resides in Lighthouse Point with his wife and their two rescue dogs, Bella and Gibby. The two-term popular County Commissioner became active in public service in 2002, serving on advisory boards in the City of Lighthouse Point. In 2005, LaMarca was elected to a seat on the Lighthouse Point City Commission. In 2010, after serving the people of Lighthouse Point for two terms, LaMarca was elected to serve the people of coastal Broward County as a member of the Board of County Commissioners and was re-elected in 2014 with more than 53% percent of the vote.

A passionate servant of the people, LaMarca has worked tirelessly to bring jobs and economic development to Broward County through his position on the Board of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance. Florida’s Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, Adam Putnam, appointed LaMarca to serve on the Florida State Fair Authority Board for two terms, and Florida’s Chief Financial Officer, Jeff Atwater, appointed him to serve as a director for the Florida Healthy Kids Corporation, helping to ensure that every child in Florida has access to quality healthcare.

LaMarca has been honored to serve as the Chair of the Finance, Tax and Administration committee for the Florida Association of Counties for the past five years, helping to shape sound fiscal policy for Florida’s 67 counties. On a national level, LaMarca was selected to Chair the Finance, Pension and Intergovernmental Relations committee for the National Association of Counties and also serves as a member of the national Board of Directors.

Locally, he serves on the Broward County Fire Rescue Council and the Regional Emergency Medical Services Council, and has spearheaded the campaign and is a leading spokesperson for the national non-profit organization, Thank You First Responder, an organization dedicated to creating awareness and appreciation for our nation’s first responders.
